Food

Columbiana CDJFS is working to fight hunger in our county.  Many families, seniors and children continue to struggle with hunger every day.  Unemployment, underemployment, low wages, rising utilities, gas and food costs make it difficult to make ends meet.   Our economy is slowly recovering, however families and individuals who were once stable are now asking for help to feed their families.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) (formerly Food Assistance and Food Stamps) is designed to supplement the buying power of low income individuals and families so they can better meet their nutrition needs.  Benefits are issued by an electronic benefit card called the Ohio Direction Card and can be used at any retail store that accepts the Visa or MasterCard to purchase food.  The program goal is to promote better health and nutrition.  In order to qualify for the Food Assistance Program, households must meet several requirements based on income and household size. The Community Action Agency Healthier Community Food Pantry and Job Mentoring program funded by the Healthier Buckeye Grant is now open. To obtain more information about the food pantry please visit the Food Pantry page.

The CCDJFS sponsors various food drives for the Food Pantry throughout the year.  Donations are always welcome and appreciated.  To obtain more information about donating food, please visit our Donations page.
