Columbiana County Subsidized Child Care Program:

You may be eligible for assistance in covering your child care expenses while you work, attend classes or are enrolled in training.  Eligibility is based on your family size and gross monthly income.  If eligible, you will pay a monthly fee or portion of the monthly cost and the child care program covers the remaining cost.

 

At the present time examples of the income guidelines are as follows:

Countable income includes income from employment or self-employment, child support, alimony, all types of social security except SSI, OWF etc.  We would deduct any child support being paid out and the amount of any attachment/garnishment to your wages.

 

If you would like to learn more about the program or to receive an application packet, please call (330) 424-1471 ext 3219.  Enclosed in the packet will be a list of county certified Type B providers and State Licensed Child Care providers.  You must either chose a provider or center from the list provided, or we may be able to certify a friend or family member to become a Type B provider.  The agency recommends that you meet and interview at least three providers/centers before making your choice.

Columbiana County

Certified Child Care Providers:

Columbiana County can certify you to provide child care services in your residence for clients who are privately or publicly funded.  You will be certified to care for no more than six (6) children at any time. 

 

The following are some requirements to becoming a child care provider:

·        High school diploma or GED

·        Three (3) non-relative references

·        Working landline telephone

·        Notarized signed statement from landlord if applicable

·        Well water test

·        Signed medical statement along with Mantoux test

·        FBI & BCI fingerprints, children services clearance and local court check for provider, all adult household members and two (2) emergency/substitute caregivers

·        Pets are properly vaccinated by a veterinarian

 

Initially, you will be mailed an application packet.  The application can be approximately 120 day process.  Once the application process is complete, your child care home will be inspected initially by appointment to become certified.  Once you are certified, your home will be inspected unannounced to evaluate the compliance standards that are expected to be met at all times.

Columbiana County - Important Emergency Information(click to download)

 The following are some standards for a child care home:

·        Home has 35 square feet of indoor space for each child.

·        60 square feet of usable outdoor play space for each child or approved/inspected off site play space.

·        Hot water temperature below 125 degrees

·        Smoke detectors on each floor of the home & at least 1 UL listed carbon monoxide detector shall be located in basement and on each level of the home in which child care is being provided. 

·        Fire extinguisher in kitchen

·        Protective covers on all electrical outlets

·        Medication and cleaning products stored out of the sight and reach of the children

§        Firearms/ammunition are in locked storage and out of reach and sight of the children

§        First aid kit with required items

§        Paper towels or individual toweling for each child in the bathroom.

§        In addition to attending to children’s basic needs, you must organize activities that stimulate children’s physical, emotional, intellectual and social growth and development.

 

Training Requirements:

(Effective 8/14/08)

 

      • Prior to initial certification, each provider shall be currently trained in first aid and infant/child CPR as well as “Health and Safety in Family Child Care”.

 

      • Provider shall complete, by the end of the first certification year, training in communicable disease and child abuse.

 

      • Provider shall complete, by the end of the first certification year and every certification year thereafter, 6 clock hours of training  in various areas such as child growth and development.
