HOW TO REPORT CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT

Anyone who has reason to believe a child is being abused or neglected should call Children Services at 330-424-7781, ext. 3118, or, after hours call Help Hotline at 330-424-7767.

We all have a responsibility to report a child we suspect may be in danger.  Ohio law encourages you to act on behalf of a child in need of protection, and to report your suspicions.

Frequently asked questions:

  1. Will the agency reveal that I reported child abuse?

The identity of the reporter is confidential and will not be revealed unless a court determines it necessary.

  1. Can I be sued if I report abuse and it turns out not to be?

If reports are made in good faith, a reporter is immune form prosecution and liability.

  1. Will the child who is reported be removed from his home?

When the risk of harm to the child is greater by leaving the child in the home than it would be from removal, Children Services will request a court order for removal.  We are obligated to seek less restrictive resources, such as relatives.

  1. If a child is removed, will he ever get to go home?

Parents are required to work a case plan which is designed to help eliminate the risks and safety concerns that led to removal.  The Court evaluates progress when deciding whether to reunite the child.
