Parenting Together
It is important and beneficial that parents work together to provide for the emotional and financial needs of their children. Even though the child’s parents are not married, the child deserves the support of both parents. Child support is an important part of a child’s healthy growth.
Children who do not receive child support may:
v suffer a reduced standard of living
v experience more physical and emotional problems
v not have basic everyday requirements
v not support their own children when they become parents
In addition, some researchers find a correlation between consistent child support and:
v improved school attendance
v higher grade point averages
v reduced behavioral problems
Children require, and have the right to the emotional and financial support of both parents, regardless of the parents’ relationship.
