Points of Interest to Prospective Employees
Columbiana County Job & Family Services
- Columbiana County Department of Job & Family Services (CCDJFS) is a triple combined agency. Three agency’s are housed in one building and under one director, Eileen Dray-Bardon.
- Job & Family Services - where case workers determine client eligibility for cash assistance, food assistance, medical card, emergency assistance, child care, etc.
- Children Services - state mandated agency responsible for investigating allegations of abuse and neglect on children in Columbiana County.
- Child Support Enforcement - responsible for determining paternity, establishing child support and enforcement of established support orders.
- All employees of the CCDJFS are civil service employees.
- Employees of CCDJFS are paid by public tax dollars and held to a high standard of expectations.
- Agency hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. In some areas of Social Services overtime and on call responsibilities are part of the duties of the position. Other positions within the agency may have scheduled overtime occasionally based on workload.
- Positions within the CCDJFS are represented by either GMP (Glass, Molders & Pottery Workers) or AFSCME (Allied Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees) union locals. Representatives of the appropriate union will approach new employees regarding membership and union dues.
- Upon employment with this agency the employees begins to accumulate vacation and sick leave. Vacation is not available for the first year of employment and requests for vacation leave will not be considered or approved until after the first anniversary of an employee’s hire date. At the end of the first year an employee will have 80 hours of vacation available. Employees earn 4 hours of sick leave per pay period to be used if necessary for personal illness, doctor appointments for themselves or family members or for illness of family members where the employees presence is needed. There is no accommodation for leave without pay without the approval of the Director.
- CCDJFS employees receive 10 government holidays off per year. New Years Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
- Currently full time employees of the CCDJFS have health insurance coverage for medical, dental, vision and prescription drugs. Employees are responsible for a premium co-pay of 2% of the employer’s obligation. Every employee of the agency has $15,000 of life insurance coverage (additional life insurance available for a $.36 per $1000 a month, employee deduction).
- All potential candidates for employment at the Columbiana County Department of Job & Family Services will be subjected to a background check by local law enforcement. Children Services workers must have a fingerprint background check completed after hire. Each candidate will need to provide at least three professional employment references. Any conditional offer of employment is contingent upon positive reference response.
- Every conditional offer of employment will be contingent upon results of the pre-employment drug testing.
